Spotlight on Resonance becoming B Corp Certified

We’re extremely honored to announce that Resonance has just become an official B Corp™! Certified B Corporations are an emerging business structure that balances purpose and profit, for a more inclusive, more sustainable economy. They are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, communities, and the environment. In short: The B Corp movement is a bold reimagining of the role of business in society.

“The move to become a B Corp reflects our promise to our staff, our clients, and ourselves that we will continue to put mission and impact first,” says Resonance CEO Nazgul Abdrazakova. “We will not take on work that does not align with that mission or our values. Period.”

What Is B Corp Certification?

B Lab’s B Corp Certification is one of the only certifications that does not focus on any particular product or service. Instead, it looks at the whole business and its impact on workers, customers, communities, and the planet. To become B Corp certified, a company must meet—and then must continue to meet—the very highest standards for social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Companies must document their positive impact to qualify, and then they must undergo verification every three years to maintain their certification.

“The B Corp certification will stretch us in valuable ways as we continue to grow and evolve,” notes Resonance Founder and Chief Innovation Officer Steve Schmida. “This is critical as we prepare to take on tomorrow’s challenges.”

The B Corp assessment process measures a company’s performance in five categories: governance, workers, customers, community, and the environment. Resonance scored highest for the work we do for our clients: work that helps drive the success of purpose-led enterprises; helps meet the needs of underserved communities; and advances the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through partnerships, innovation, and market-led solutions. We also stood out for employee-focused initiatives related to inclusion, professional development, and benefits.

Why We Became a B Corporation

We took this step, in large part, because B Lab’s mission to harness business as a force for good deeply aligns with what we do and what we believe. From our earliest startup days, our passion and niche has been helping companies and cross-sector partners work together to create positive impact for business, society, and the environment at scale

There are very few global development consulting firms that have taken the step to become a certified B Corporation,” notes Abdrazakova. “But we feel it’s important that companies in our industry 'walk the talk' on impact—both in the work that they do and in how they operate."
