About this webinar

Open innovation is a tool to generate new ideas from new sources. For healthcare in emerging markets, it has the opportunity to promote inclusion, local connection, and long-term sustainability by engaging stakeholders who have historically been excluded. In this session, our panelists will share their experiences and lessons learned in deploying open innovation for global health, to help others better leverage this powerful tool to transform health products, systems, and outcomes.

  • Pamela Hill has more than 15 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. She is currently head of the Open Innovation program at AstraZeneca, which has revolutionized how AstraZeneca is utilizing open collaboration with academic and industry partners to further advance cutting-edge research to bring novel therapies to patients.
  • Meghan Majorowski is a Senior Advisor in USAID's Center for Accelerating Innovation and Impact (CII). At CII, she focuses on market-based strategies to accelerate the adoption of priority health solutions, including supporting innovators to bring their global health developments to the market and advancing a more demand-driven, country-led approach to innovation scaling.  She has 20 years of strategic and operational consulting experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, non-profit, and financial services organizations.
  • Wilfred Njagi has lived and worked in the Middle East, India, and East Africa. In 2013/14, he engaged in a one-year Villgro fellowship in India, after which he took up the challenge of scaling Villgro to Africa. He is the co-founder and CEO of Villgro Africa, an early-stage business incubator and impact investor for startups in healthcare and life sciences.

In this episode, we will explore:

  • Models for open innovation in global health
  • The role that open innovation can play in connecting global and local health ecosystems
  • Lessons learned as to which problems are best solved with open innovation
  • The role of partnerships in open innovation
